Rugby Club Visit

4 members of Wetherby Rugby Club visited Privas at the beginning of June 2011 to participate in the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the founding of Privas Club. They stayed on the campsite and took part in all of the activities planned for the weekend. The Association Jumelage organised a welcome barbecue for them and, according to the players, they had a great time. Hopefully, the visit will lead to a visit by the teams next year.

St. James Church Fete, June 2011

Members of the Committee manned a stall at the Church Fete in early June - it was a gloriously sunny day, even if a little breezy. We handed out lots of brochures on the Ardeche, together with bookmarks and stickers, kindly donated by the Tourist Offices in Privas. Our fundraiser was 'Cherchez le Truffe' and we sold over 100 flags. The winning guess was Limoges and the prize won by a resident of Boston Spa. Although we don't raise much money from the event, it does raise the profile of the Association and our twin-town and we did gain one new member.

OBITUARY

Our Secretary of many years, Unice Brierley, passed away on December 22nd last year at the age of 95. Only a few weeks before her death, she was asking if she should organise a committee meeting on Zoom! Both she and her late husband, Eric, were original members of the Association back in 1992 and remained enthusiastic supporters right to the end. They visited Privas several times and always accommodated French visitors to Wetherby. Unice was a conscientious secretary and was always the first to offer help at events. We shall miss her greatly.
